Grants Awarded
New Field Foundation has been supporting work in Africa since 2004.
Initially, we carried out detailed research to increase our
understanding of the reality of women and their families in sub-Saharan
Africa, the leadership they are taking, and the resources reaching them.
In 2005 and 2006, we established key relationships with organizations
supporting community-driven initiatives for wider systemic change. From
this emerged our focus on rural women and their families, particularly
in West Africa, based on 'greatest need, least funding, and most
potential'. Currently, grants are awarded in two program areas, Local
and Regional, according to our 2007 priorities.
Grants support rural women and their families in West Africa to take
leadership and transform their lives, particularly in response to
conflict and constraint. We believe it is important to be involved
consistently over a number of years, and at this time are concentrating
on the following areas:
Grants support regional initiatives in Africa that promote systemic
changes in policies, laws, cultural norms and the distribution of
resources for rural women and their families, with particular
relevance to West Africa.
