ONG Rayouwan Mata

ONG Rayouwan Mata was created in Niger in 2001 and is a national grassroots women’s organization with nearly 500 members in all eight regions of Niger. Rayouwan Mata is dedicated to promoting women’s activities and advancing the well being of women in Niger. Its programs support income generation, food security, health, and protection of the natural resources upon which women rely. It also conducts awareness-raising campaigns on issues identified as significant by its members, such as early marriage, girls’ education and the fight against HIV/AIDS.

This grant enables Rayouwan Mata to upgrade its computer equipment and Internet access, as well as staff capacity to use it effectively. Specifically, the organization will create a donor database, track its grant applications and reports, produce contextual profiles and communicate more regularly with its partners.

This grant enables a staff member of Rayouwan Mata to attend the Eighth Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in order to share knowledge and develop strategies for its indigenous members.

This grant enables Rayouwan Mata to continue its work in raising awareness on issues of early marriage, HIV/AIDS, and women’s rights. It also enables Rayouwan Mata to promote environmentally friendly farming and the need for community farmers to conserve and promote local seeds. This is of particular interest to communities that have long been confronted by food insecurity and hunger.

This grant enables representatives from Rayouwan Mata to attend and participate in the AWID International Forum on Women’s Rights and Development, in Cape Town, South Africa, with the purpose of sharing knowledge, building connections, and informing strategies.

This grant enables representatives from Rayouwan Mata to attend and participate in a series of conferences and field visits in Mali led by local farmer associations. The conferences are designed to launch a public information campaign among farmers across Africa about environmentally friendly agricultural alternatives, and to strengthen networks that enhance food security, food sovereignty and sustainable agriculture.

This grant supports Rayouwan Mata to build its institutional capacity through the recruitment of additional staff. With increased capacity, the organization will implement programs that benefit rural women by addressing food insecurity through environmental regeneration

This grant is for two women leaders of Rayouwan Mata to participate in the World Social Forum 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya. They will present a workshop sharing the realities of women’s lives in Niger and strategies for addressing women’s poverty.

This grant is for the rehabilitation and restoration of water banks in Kanna, Tchirozérine, in response to the food crisis in Niger which was caused by prolonged drought.
