Ithaca, USA
http://www.wocan.org

Formed in 2004, WOCAN is an international network of over 420 female and male professionals in 80 countries. Its membership is dedicated to increasing rural women’s access to and control of natural and agricultural resources so that they can improve their livelihoods and alleviate poverty.

2008$41,0551 year
This grant enables WOCAN to strengthen its presence in West and Central Africa by supporting an action research project that will provide relevant training and inputs to women farmers in Cameroon, Ghana, and Nigeria. The grant also enables WOCAN to conduct outreach and cultivate regional partnerships in Senegal, Mali and Niger. In addition, the grant supports WOCAN to secure its West and Central Africa office and update its new website.
2008$7,6356 months
This grant enables a staff member of WOCAN to attend the 2008 AWID International Forum on Women’s Rights and Development, in Cape Town, South Africa, with the purpose of sharing knowledge, building connections, and informing strategies.
2007$40,0001 year
This grant supports the establishment in Cameroon of WOCAN’s West and Central Africa office and the appointment of its local coordinator. Strengthening WOCAN’s institutional capacity will permit it to increase women’s knowledge of natural resource management, support women’s leadership in agricultural change, build networks and attract further resources.
2007$7,5256 months
This grant enables representatives from WOCAN to attend and participate in a series of conferences and field visits in Mali led by local farmer associations. The conferences are designed to launch a public information campaign among farmers across Africa about ecologically sound agricultural alternatives, and to strengthen networks that enhance food security, food sovereignty and sustainable agriculture.
2006$20,0001 year
This grant enables WOCAN to organize a workshop for 30 WOCAN members in West and Central Africa on the theme of women's leadership in agriculture and natural resource management. The goal of the workshop is to provide capacity building on gender sensitization, enable the sharing of best practices, and begin the formulation of a regional African WOCAN chapter.
