Girl Child Network (GCN)
Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe
Established in 1999, GCN's mission is to support the empowerment of the girl child in all spheres - social, economic, cultural and political - in the home, school and community. The network consists of more than 155 girls' clubs across Zimbabwe with a membership of over 20,000 girls, as well as three ’empowerment villages’ with safe houses for girls who have been abused and raped. GCN also mobilizes communities and advocates for systemic changes to eradicate traditional structures and practices that violate the rights of the girl child.
